This balata press is still housed at Apoteri, a once small city where giant boats would come to export the balata. Balata is a natural rubber, once a market from South America, it was taken over by farmed balata trees in Asia. Apoteri is now one of the most secluded villages in Guyana. Apoteri is now looking into eco-tourism for a hopeful future.
